Homer the Dragon Sets Hug World Record

Congrats to Homer the Dragon and everyone at the Charlotte Knights! According to a tweet by @KnightsBaseball, Homer the Dragon set a new world record for most hugs by a mascot in 24 hours with 5,615 hugs! That’s pretty intense.

In addition to setting a world record, Homer the Dragon was also looking to support a few local charities. The event, called “Homer Hugs for Hope,” suggested a $1 donation per hug. All donation proceeds from the hugs would be going to support local charities. According to press release the Knights were “hoping to raise $8,000 to be distributed to the following charities: local schools, Community Blood Center of the Carolinas, and the Disaster Relief Initiative.”

Not familiar with Homer the Dragon? Here’s a little more information from his bio page:

SuperFrog Makes Its Golf Debut

This is awesome.

J.J. Henry and Jerry Kelly made a friendly wager on the 2011 Rose Bowl. Henry is a TCU grad and Kelly is a native of Wisconsin. The winning team of the Rose Bowl won the bet. The loser had to take a tee shot dressed as the opposing school’s mascot. In thrilling fashion, TCU defeated heavily-favored Wisconsin 22-19.

What better place for Kelly to pay up than at the Colonial pro-am in Texas this past Wednesday. TCU Football Coach Gary Patterson was on-site for the event. The video of the shot is below.

This was definitely a funny bet. Well done. But… TMB would have preferred if the video ended five seconds earlier. Do we really need to see SuperFrog taking his head off? Respect the Mascot Code. Anyway… enjoy!

Hertz Has A New Golden Boy

Give yourself ten seconds on the clock… ready? Okay, now name all of the Car Rental company mascots you can think of. On your mark, get set, go!

Do you have a blank page? So did we. Well, that’s all about to change. Hertz has launched a new mascot in hopes of better targeting the 20-something demographic. Horatio, a golden dashboard figurine has a head shaped like a football and a lower-case “h” on his stomach.

Hertz hopes to make Horatio synonymous with the brand like other popular brand mascots.

Can Horatio help me reduce how much I pay for gas?
